Updated October 29, 2026: Second-half property tax compliance guide explaining the statutory deadline, the weekend rollover to Monday, November 2, 2026, payment methods, drop box access, and interest penalty structures.
Tax Compliance Notice: This guide is published by Tygart Media for public informational purposes. Tygart Media is not a tax advisory service. Payment schedules, interest rates, and fee assessments are governed by Washington State statutory law (RCW 84.56) and administrative rules enforced by the Mason County Treasurer. Verify current parcel balances at masoncountywa.gov or by calling (360) 427-9670.
Property owners in Mason County are preparing for their second-half 2026 property tax payments. Under Washington State law (RCW 84.56.020), annual property taxes of $50 or more are payable in two equal installments: the first half is due on April 30, and the second half is due on October 31.
In 2026, however, October 31 falls on a Saturday. Under Washington statutory postmark provisions (RCW 1.12.070) and official Mason County Treasurer policy:
“If a due date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the next Monday is the acceptable due date for payments to be considered on time.”
Consequently, the effective, on-time payment deadline for second-half 2026 Mason County property taxes is Monday, November 2, 2026. Payments made online by midnight November 2, placed in the courthouse secure drop box by November 2, or bearing a verifiable U.S. Postal Service postmark on or before November 2, 2026, will be processed without delinquent penalty or interest.
Statutory Delinquency & Interest Penalties (RCW 84.56.020)
Taxpayers who do not remit their second-half taxes by the close of business or postmark deadline on Monday, November 2, 2026, will see their accounts become delinquent under state law.
- Statutory Interest: Under RCW 84.56.020(5), delinquent real property taxes accrue interest at a rate of 12% per annum, computed monthly (1% per month) on the delinquent balance from the date of delinquency.
- Late Penalties: Additional statutory penalties apply pursuant to RCW 84.56.020 for balances that remain delinquent beyond prescribed grace milestones.
- No Administrative Waiver: County Treasurers in Washington State have no statutory authority to waive state-mandated interest or penalties for missed deadlines or forgotten notices. Property owners who cannot pay their balance in full should contact the Treasurer’s Office immediately before November 2 to discuss payment options.
Comprehensive Payment Channels: How to Pay Your Tax
The Mason County Treasurer’s Office provides four authorized methods for taxpayers across Shelton, Belfair, Allyn, Grapeview, Union, Hoodsport, and rural Mason County to remit their second-half tax payments:
1. Online & Automated Phone Payments (Fastest)
Payments can be made electronically through the county’s third-party processor, Point & Pay, accessible via the official Mason County Treasurer portal.
- Electronic Check (ACH / E-Check): Recommended for the lowest transaction cost. E-checks carry a low flat processing convenience fee disclosed upon checkout.
- Credit / Debit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted. The payment processor charges a convenience fee of approximately 2.50% of the payment amount (with a $2.00 minimum).
- Automated Telephone System: Credit and debit card payments may also be submitted by calling Point & Pay’s automated telephone payment line at 1-855-331-3631 (fees apply).
2. 24/7 Secure Courthouse Drive-Up Drop Box (No Postage Needed)
To avoid USPS mail transit delays or missing postmark cancellations, Mason County maintains an official secure drive-up drop box located in the alley adjacent to:
Mason County Building 1 (Courthouse Campus)
411 N. 5th Street, Shelton, WA 98584
The drop box is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is emptied daily by Treasurer staff. Payments deposited in the drop box before midnight on Monday, November 2, 2026, are credited as timely. Place check or money order and your tax stub in an envelope; do not deposit cash.
3. In-Person Cashier Counter
Property owners wishing to pay in person with cash, check, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card can visit the cashier counter:

Senior Citizens & Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption
Mason County homeowners who are 61 years of age or older, or who are retired due to a physical disability, may qualify for property tax relief under Washington State’s property tax exemption program (RCW 84.36.381). This program freezes the assessed taxable value of qualifying primary residences and exempts owners from excess school and local levies.
- Administration: Exemption applications are evaluated and administered by the Mason County Assessor’s Office, not the Treasurer.
- Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must own and occupy the home as their primary residence and meet statutory combined disposable household income thresholds.
- Assessor Inquiries: To request application forms or verify current income ceilings, contact the Mason County Assessor’s Office at (360) 427-9670, extension 491.
